Code of Conduct

Boyertown Optimist Football and Cheer Parent Code of Conduct

The Boyertown Optimist Football program has implemented the following Code of Conduct to explain the expected role of parents and guests in supporting their children in sports. Parents will read and understand this form. By registering your child you are agreeing to the following expected behaviors:

Any Parent, child (and my guests) guilty of improper conduct at any game or practice will be required to leave the facility immediately. Any deviations from these expectations can result in suspension from all football activities for a period of time up to and including the duration of the football season.

The essential elements of character building and ethics in sports are embodied in the following core principles; Optimism, Perseverance, Teamwork, Integrity, Maturity, Intellect, Sportsmanship, and Trust. The highest potential of sports is achieved when competition reflects these principles.

I therefore agree:

1.       I will not force my child to participate in sports.

2.       I will remember that children participate to have fun and that the game is for youth NOT adults.

3.       I will inform the HEAD coach of any physical disability or ailment that may affect the safety of my child or the safety of others.

4.       I will learn the rules of the game and the policies of the league.

5.       I (and my guests) will be a positive role model for my child and encourage sportsmanship by showing respect and courtesy, and by demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches, officials, and spectators at every game, practice, or other event.

6.       I (and my guests) will not engage in any kind of unsportsmanlike conduct with any official, coach, player, or parent such as booing and taunting, refusing to shake hands, or using profane language or gestures. Verbal or physical abuse of any player, coach, official, chain crew member or spectator will result in immediate dismissal from that practice, game or event.

7.       I will teach my child to play by the rules and to resolve conflicts without resorting to hostility or violence.

8.       I will demand that my child treat other players, coaches, officials, and spectators with respect regardless of race, creed, or ability.

9.       I will teach my child that doing one’s best is more important than winning, so that they will never feel defeated by the outcome of a game or his/her performance.

10.    I will promote the emotional and physical well being of ALL athletes ahead of any personal desire I may have for my child to win.

11.    I will respect the officials and their authority during games and will never question, discuss, confront coaches at the game or practice field. I will take the time to speak with coaches at an agreed upon time and place.

12.    I will demand a sports environment for my child that is free from drugs, tobacco, and alcohol and will refrain from their use at ALL sports events. Upon report and discovery of alcohol consumption during a practice or game (home or away) will result in immediate removal from that practice or game.

13.    I (and my guests and children) will not use ANY form of social media or internet as an outlet to promote or encourage unsportsmanlike behavior including negative comments towards ANY ICFL coach, official, board member, teammate or parent or youth sports program. Every person involved in the execution of a youth football season is a VOLUNTEER and it is expected that they will be treated with the upmost dignity and respect.

14.    I will physically remain on the sidelines and not enter the field of play during any practice or game under any circumstances at any time unless asked to by a member of my child’s coaching staff as this presents a risk to myself, the athletes, and the coaching staff’s safety. Failure to stay on the sidelines unless specifically requested by the coaching staff will result in immediate removal from the practice or game site, and can result in a suspension of the person in violation for a term up to an including the entire season.
